Standard Two:
Establishes a safe, inclusive and respectable learning environment for a diverse population of students.
Artifact One: Mini Murals Lesson Plan: This artifact is a lesson plan on the history of Frida Kahlo's self portraits and Diego Rivera's Mexican mural art. The reason I chose this artifact for Standard Two is because of the use of multiple diverse examples of contemporary muralists who are of different gender and skin color. By doing this, I am creating a representative environment of diversity. If a student can see artists who look like them, they will find it easier to see themselves creating amazing work. It makes the content pertinent to the student.
Artifact Two: For this artifact, the interdisciplinary lesson plan has students create a collage and write and artist statement regarding what they identify with in terms of their personal communities. I chose this artifact as evidence for Standard Two, because the main objective for the lesson is to help students express their individuality and diverse communities. By doing so, the students are building a safe, accepting, and understanding environment with one another that respects each others differences.
