Personal Teaching Philosophy
I believe every student has infinite intrinsic value and is worthy of opportunities for learning, self discovery, and self expression. It is my duty as a teacher to act as a guide for my students to invent, discover, and create.
I believe students succeed in an environment that focuses on
growth mindset,
vulnerability/inclusivity,
and choice.
The deepest learning experiences and the most honest, meaningful artmaking take place when students are allowed to make mistakes and problem solve, feel seen, safe, and understood, and have the opportunities to research and create what is pertinent to the individual.
It is my mission to create a space for making deep connections through mistakes and play. I hope to create an accepting space made from empathy and self- compassion. Empathy allows us to understand one another, and self-compassion allows us to understand ourselves. Art allows for both.
