Personal Teaching Philosophy
I believe every student has infinite intrinsic value and is worthy of opportunities for learning, self discovery, and self expression. It is my duty as a teacher to act as a guide for my students to invent, discover, and create.
I believe students succeed in an environment that focuses on
growth mindset,
vulnerability/inclusivity,
and choice.
The deepest learning experiences and the most honest, meaningful art-making take place when students feel allowed to make mistakes and problem solve, feel seen, safe, and understood, and have the opportunities to research and create what is pertinent to the individual.
It is my mission to create a space for deep connection making through mistakes and play. Through relationship building and clear expectations with my students, I create an accepting, safe space, a space that holds both empathy and self- compassion. Empathy allows us to understand one another, and self-compassion allows us to understand ourselves.
Art allows for both.
